Traditional Acupuncture - a natural healing art

Traditional Acupuncture is one of the worlds oldest system of medicine developed over 3,000 years ago, with an estimated three million practitioners worldwide. In recent years, acupuncture has become recognised in the West for its ability to address chronic and debilitating conditions, in addition to the treatment of pain.

The main principal of Traditional Acupuncture is the treatment of the whole person including the complaint, often referred to as 'holistic'. Treating holistically helps symptoms and any underlying imbalance which may be contributing to the illness or disease.

This is achieved by balancing vital energy, known as 'Qi'. Symptoms are distress signals that indicate that vital energy is out of balance and Traditional Acupuncture addresses them by treating the underlying cause of the problem which enables the body, mind and spirit to heal itself as far as nature will allow. In this way symptoms can be alleviated and the cause of the problem identified and helped to function in harmony and achieve health and well-being, leading to a more permanent improvement in health than the treatment of the symptoms alone.

What Conditions does acupuncture help?

Traditional Acupuncture has been used to treat the entire spectrum of illness; physical and psychological, acute and chronic.

A wide variety of people come for treatment, ranging from children to the elderly, and many have found it extremely beneficial where other forms of treatment have been unsuccessful. People will often come for acupuncture treatment with specific conditions, and The World Health Organisation has endorsed acupuncture for treatment of a wide range of conditions.

The affect of Acupuncture is not simply relief from a condition but an improvement in overall well-being; increased energy and vitality, greater enjoyment of life, better sleep, improved digestion. The 'overall well-being' is particularly relevant for those, while not feeling they are classically 'sick', are aware that they are unwell or 'out of sorts'. A person may benefit from treatment and the restoration of well-being without necessarily having a named 'illness'. In addition acupuncture can be seen as a preventative medicine, maintaining health as opposed to dealing with illness.
