Diagnosis and Treatment
The initial consultation lasts approximately 2 hours. You will be asked about your main and other complaints, personal and family history. Appetite, sleep and other bodily functions. You will also have plenty of opportunity to talk in complete confidence about any concerns or troubles you may have. This is followed by several diagnostic tests, including blood pressure, temperature distribution and pulse taking, which help with your diagnosis. Subsequent appointments take 45 mins to one hour and include discussion of your progress and treatment, which involves the insertion of very fine, sterile, disposable needles into acupuncture points and/or by the application of heat (moxibustion). Many patients are concerned that acupuncture may be painful, but as the needles are flexible and about as thick as two human hairs, there is usually only a very slight sensation as the needle enters the skin. Sometimes patients also feel a dull ache on the acupuncture point but this only lasts for a few seconds. |

How frequent will your treatment be?
The severity of the complaint, how long the person has suffered and whether or not there is anything in the persons life style which is interfering with the progress of healing will all affect the duration and frequency of treatment. Suggested initial treatments are weekly. As your health improves the gap between treatments increase until you are only coming every couple of months to maintain your new found health.
Most private medical insurance companies will cover full or partial costs of acupuncture treatment.
